Effectiveness of Acceptance and Commitment Therapy on Psychological Well-being and Sexual Function of women with infertility

Abstract:

Introduction: Women with infertility have are a psychological and sexual problems; Therefore, the aim of this study was to determine the Effectiveness of Acceptance and Commitment Therapy (ACT) on Psychological Well-being and Sexual Function of women with a history of infertility. Methods: The present study is a semi-experimental pretest-posttest with control group. A total of 30 infertile women referred to the Mehr Infertility Clinic in Rasht city during the 6 months of 2017-2018 were selected by available sampling method and randomly assigned to two groups of acceptance and commitment therapy (n = 15) and control group (n = 15). They completed the psychological well-being Reef and the sexual function of women Rosen questionnaire before and after the intervention and after 2 months follow-up. Data were analyzed by SPSS software version 19 and by multivariate covariance analysis and repeated measure ANOVA. Results: Mancova showed that the ACT therapy in posttest stage has a significant effect on psychological well-being (p <0.01) and its components included self-acceptance, positive relationships with others (p <0.01), autonomy and life Purposeful life (p <0.05) and sexual function (p <0.01) and that the effect of ACT was Remained to follow up stage. Conclusions: According to the results, it can be said that ACT therapy has an effective role in promoting the psychological well-being and sexual function of women with a history of infertility.
